How to Arrange a Medellín Airport Pickup When You Travel With Mobility Aids

A practical vehicle and meet-and-greet briefing for visitors traveling with walkers, wheelchairs, canes or extra luggage.

The drive from José María Córdova Airport to Medellín is not the hard part to reserve. The hard part is making sure the right vehicle, driver, meeting point and building entrance match what you actually need. “Airport pickup included” is not enough detail for a traveler using a mobility aid.

Describe the equipment, not just the passenger count

Tell the transport operator the number of travelers, suitcase sizes, and dimensions of any folded wheelchair or walker. Specify whether you can transfer independently into a car seat, need room for a rigid chair, or require a wheelchair-accessible vehicle. Do not assume that an SUV is accessible or that a driver can safely lift a passenger. Request a vehicle photo and an explicit written confirmation for the equipment you will bring.

Set the meeting point and delay plan

Get the driver’s name, company, contact number, flight number and a specific meeting location in the arrivals area. Ask whether waiting time after delayed flights is included, what happens if your flight changes terminal or time, and who answers after hours. Keep a printed copy. Arrange assistance through your airline and airport separately; a ground transfer booking does not automatically include help from the aircraft to the curb.

Finish at the apartment door

Give the driver the precise entrance and any slope or stair detail. If the building has a side or garage entrance that is easier for drop-off, verify that the driver can legally and practically use it. Know who will open the apartment after arrival, especially at night. Confirm whether the price covers tolls, parking and all luggage; get that total in writing before you land.

Before you commit: the six-point checklist

  • Share full mobility-aid dimensions.
  • Confirm the passenger can board safely.
  • Request the actual vehicle type or photo.
  • Specify airline flight number and meeting point.
  • Agree on fees for waiting, tolls and luggage.
  • Confirm curb-to-apartment handoff instructions.

A practical next step

Send this message: “One traveler uses a folding walker and cannot climb into a high vehicle easily. We have two large cases. Please confirm seat height, luggage space, meeting point and the total fare to our building.”
